biography

Tarek Haddad is a Lebanese photographer born in Beirut in 1991. Heholds a B.S. in computer sciences (2013) and a B.A. in photography (2017) fromthe Notre Dame University-Louaize, Lebanon, and a master's in photography from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d'Arles, France (2024). He currently lives between Beirutand Arles.

His work is avisual attempt at reconciling an estranged relationship between the human andnatural worlds, and understanding the complex relationships we maintain withour surrounding environments. His practice often takes form throughphotographic gestures, interventions, and installations.

Tarek had his first solo exhibition “Vesica Piscis” at Galerie Janine Rubeiz in 2017 in Beirut. He has received the Arab Funds for Arts and Culture’s Arab documentary photography grant in partnership with Prince Claus Funds and Magnum Foundation in 2018. In2019, he was granted the Sustainable Mountain Art residency and had his secondsolo “The Sixth Day” in Bellwald, Switzerland. In 2022, he was selected for the Saradar Foundation art residency in Beirut. He was exhibited at Paris Photo in 2023 and Art Düsseldorf in 2024 with Galerie Tanit. His work is part of the public collection of the Centre d'art Madeleine-Lambert in Venissieux, France.

In 2019, he formed a duo with photographer Laetitia Hakim. In their joint practice, they delve into notions such as the perpetuity of loss, particularly that experienced by the Lebanese society in recent years, and political power struggles linked to the 2019 revolution in Beirut. In 2022, they were the recipients of the Visuals Arts Prize by Fondation Boghossian. The duo had their first solo show “Ebb & Flow” at Galerie Tanit in Beirut in 2023, and were in residence at Villa Empain in summer 2024 in Brussels. They've been part of group exhibitions in France, Belgium, and Lebanon.
