a State of su-Zen
Suzan, an art graduate from High Wycombe Buckinghamshire, England, has been living in Lebanon for almost forty years now. Her first visit to the country took place after she was invited to stay at her friend’s house in Jezzine.
After coming back the next year for a second vacation, Suzan managed to get a job in Lebanon, teaching English and Arts. After attending a yoga class, liking the philosophy and the teachings, Suzan adopted the meditation lifestyle and went later to Japan for four years to get her own yoga-teaching diploma. Twenty years following the opening of her center, Suzan had to give up her space due to a hip injury, closing, emptying and bringing back home all of her belongings from her classroom. Having an interest in collecting art crafts, artworks, ornaments and anything she might find interesting, Suzan found her house stacking up with memories and possessions over time. Previously-stray cats keep her company at home, as she had rescued and sheltered many, one of which born without eyes, another with a glass ball.
She went back to practicing yoga two months after her injury, and now grows plants in her garden, feeds the cats that live inside and outside her house, collects plastic gallons for recycling, and manages to give classes, although she did not heal completely.
Although some neighbors are not on good terms with her because of the cats she keeps around and the fact that she’s a little untidy – as she describes, Suzan considers those issues to be tests to her advancement in the spiritual field, as she always tries to keep a peaceful mind and to stay positive, regardless of the situation.
